![]() ![]() Part 2 – his sensei was a transvestite, he fought a guy on a boat ![]() Part 1 – Wesley wore an African hat as part of a disguise Here’s what I remember from the other chapters in the series: He doesn’t seem as smart as the old Agent Shaw but he must be because he manages to take care of business in the end (SPOILER). (It is your father’s rapper-turned-actor though if you didn’t get that “O.P.P.” reference.) The new Agent Shaw is less of a smooth operator and more of an ebonics-speaking, running in half-cocked shit talker type of secret agent. This is an Agent Shaw for a new generation. After a lengthy international casting call they remembered that Treach from Naughty By Nature was down with O.P.P., other people’s parts, in this case Wesley’s part from parts 1 and 2. Now, like James Bond before him, Agent Shaw is being re-interpreted by a new actor. “Agent Shaw is back in this new action-packed international thriller!” says the back of the screener, reminding us that apparently Wesley’s character must’ve been named Agent Shaw. It’s not even that bad, it’s just completely bland. ![]() I’m a huge Wesley Snipes fan and even I don’t give a shit about THE ART OF WAR. Remember, there was a movie called THE ART OF WAR. None of this is relevant here though because this is part 3 in the ART OF WAR series. Every once in a while you get a part 3 that really delivers or even improves on the ones before it, like RETURN OF THE KING or REVENGE OF THE SITH in my opinion or HARRY POTTER 3 which is still the best of the series. It’s alot of pressure, but it’s not impossible. If you slip up a little bit moviegoers will want your head – it happened with SPIDER-MAN 3, X-MEN 3, GODFATHER 3, BLADE 3, HELLRAISER 3, CHILD’S PLAY 3. But more importantly you just have to make a solid movie, you can’t get lazy or arrogant or lose sight of what your series is about. You might need to introduce something fresh, but then you risk the audience rejecting the new shit. You have to continue with what people loved about the first two but with more risk than before of feeling like we’ve been there, done that. When you get to part 3 in a trilogy there’s a big risk of blowing everything. ![]()
